KSDC releases photo of injured volunteer

The Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) today released the photo of a woman volunteer who was injured while enforcing the public blockade along the Imphal-Ukhrul road and asserted that she testifies the committee's resolute stand on its demand.
The photo, which was exclusively released to The Sangai Express shows 45-year old Nemkim lying on the hospital bed of Christian Hospital, Imphal.
An accompanying statement said Nemkim's injury only illustrates the KSDC's resolute stand on obtaining a written assurance for initiating political talks on a pre-determined date with the Kuki armed groups under SoO and the KSDC.
The statement was signed by George Guite, the committee's information and publicity secretary.
In addition, George claimed that their volunteers had destroyed the wind-shield of a Bolero Jeep along the NH 37 near Kotlian village at around 9.30 am today.
'Today, hundreds of womenfolk blocked ImphalUkhrul, Imphal-Senapati, Imphal-Tamenglong, Imphal-Moreh, and Imphal-Churachandpur road,' he said.

He added that despite their intense agitation, the union home minister has till date refrained from taking any positive steps to address their demand.
He had also expressed annoyance over the state police forces' physical and verbal attack on its volunteers at Mongneljang along the Imphal-Ukhrul road.
'They have resorted to firing tear-gases besides vandalizing their makeshift hut.
Using very very unparliamentary languages against the women folk they have chased them even inside the jungle,' he said adding, the police action will only aggravate the ongoing agitation.
The KSDC secretary also claimed that two volunteers were seriously injured during the tear-gas attack today on its volunteers at Mongneljang.
One had a knee-cap damaged while the other is likely to suffer visual impairment due to a very close range attack.
Both the injured are reportedly waiting for an ambulance to take them to Imphal for further treatment at the time of filing this report.
