CCpur, July 21 2017:
At least 38 District Level Officers, including the Deputy Commisioner and the Superintendent of Police have been assigned to mentor one Government school each that are identified for them to plan its improvement, restore confidence of the parents and to transform it into model schools within a specific time frame.
The initiative taken up by the district administration, according to an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Shyam Lal Poonia, is intended to improve the ever deteriorating status of Government-run schools in the district .
Unusual it may sound but, the move has been justified with a view to arrest the ever declining enrolment and make these schools attractive for students .
The mentors according to the directive will make plans for improvement of atmosphere in the school, counsel parents in the locality to win their trust and to restore confidence in Government schools .
These assignments, added the notification, have to be taken up in a time bound manner with efforts to evolve the school as worth emulating by others .
It also requires the Headmaster or Principal concerned to extend full co-operation to the Mentor Officer and work in sync to achieve remarkable improvement in quality of education and personality of the students .
The officers are tasked to carry out analysis for the school in prescribed format and submit plan for its overall improvement within July 31 this year .
The Mentors who are from diverse background will be briefed on the entitlement of schools by resource persons from the SSA, RMSA or Directorate of Education from time to time .
Besides the Mentor Officers are required to conduct fortnightly meeting of school management committee, submit monthly development report, conduct parent-teacher meeting (every month, ensure that all funds sanctioned by the Government are utilized properly, and make efforts for improvement and monitoring of the health and hygiene of students .
Ultimately the Mentor also needs to monitor the schools' mid-day meal and taste the food at regular intervals .
It may be mentioned here that the Deputy Commissioner yesterday visited the school which he is to mentor, underlining his seriousness about the latest venture to revamp the traditionally sluggish Government schools.
