Siblings arrested in minister's worker murder case

Imphal, June 17 2011: Two siblings were detained by the police in connection with the murder of Moirangthem Shyamo (56) of Wangjing Khunou, an active worker of Works minister K Ranjit, on June 15 night.

The arrested persons were Nongmaithem Singhajit (41) and Nongmaithem Kumar (42).They are from the same village of Shyamo and were arrested by the police last night around 6 pm from their respective houses, a police source said.

They were produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Thoubal today and taken into seven days remand by the police.

Meanwhile, with tensions high up after the killing of Shyamo, Thoubal District Magistrate has promulgated restrictions to the gathering of five or more people at Chairel area under section 144 of CrPC.

The order which prohibits carrying of arms, sticks, stones which can be used in committing crimes, came into effect from last midnight.

Civil police personnel have also been detailed in the area to keep a close vigilance and prevent outbreak of any violent incidence, reports said.
