Imphal, January 10 2016:
JAC
Marangching has announced an
indefinite ban on all railway
related works being taken up at
the village by North-Eastern
Frontier Railway with effect
from the midnight of January
10.
JAC secretary Gankhonlung
Gonmei said that they
have taken the decision of
banning railway related works
as the Government has failed
to respond positively to their
demand for revocation of the
FIR filed against the villagers
and lifting of the prohibitory
order being imposed in the
village under Section 144
CrPC.
Moreover, NF Railway
and the State Government
have also not given any response
to the JAC's demand
for conducting fresh survey
of land to uphold Right to
Fair Compensation and
Transparency in Land Acquisition,
Resettlement and
Rehabilitation Act 2013, he
said.
Gankhonlung further said
that the ban on railway works
was suspended for some time
after Marangching Youth
Club president Gonchalung
Gangmei was released from
police custody on December
31.However, the Government
is yet to act positively
on other demands of the JAC,
he said.
Notably, some villagers
burnt down five houses following
a land dispute in the
village between December 21
and 25.A tipper truck was
also burnt down on Dec 25 .
