Imphal, April 05 2021:
The Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) has urged the State Government and the authorities concerned to take expeditious steps and settle the issues surrounding the suspicious death of Sanaton Athokpam on March 15 at RIMS.
In a statement, the committee maintained that not unearthing any circumstances that led to the death of the 22-year-old medical student till date reveals the incompetency of the departments handling the case.
Considering the way the lifeless body of Sanaton was found, with hands behind his back, bruises on many body parts and mud on his feet, it is likely that the case was a well-planned murder, CCSK said.

The committee also expressed disappointment with RIMS for not extending any words or gestures of encouragement to the bereaved family and added that the attitude shown by the institute (RIMS) just to save its image/prestige is upsetting.
The recent sad incident at RIMS also reveals that the life of students is not secure at the institute, CCSK claimed and added that the alleged inhumane act might have been carried out taking due advantages of the inadequacy at the boys hostel of RIMS such as non-fitting of CCTV and absence of warden etc.
The more surprising thing is that the police are not registering any case to date for proper investigation, asserted the committee and stated that the claim that the call history of the young medical student is lost fits right with the people's assumption that the case is of murder.
The statement further claimed that the people's protests demanding justice are continuing unabated but there still is no instance of even questioning people close to him (Sanaton) at RIMS and the institute.
Saying that the corpse of the deceased is still not claimed by his family, the committee appealed to all concerned to do what is right and extend help in delivering justice to the deceased and his family members.
Meanwhile, Justice for Sanaton Athokpam, in a statement, informed that demonstrations demanding an impartial probe into the death of the young student by registering an FIR, and suspension of RIMS Director were staged today at Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai, Tangkham Awang Leikai and Yourabung.
The JAC also stated that irate women protesting at different localities blocked the road from Lamlong to Hatta Minuthong.
