CPI calls for protection of Loijing hill range

Destruction of Loijing hill range and Kamong river should be immediately stopped.
Communist Party of India Konthoujam Local Council said this in a statement and added that this hill range is the origin of Kamong river which serves as a lifeline for Kamong and adjoining villages and has been subject to vast destruction in recent times.
Huge boulders at the origin of Sajirok river and Kamong Leimakhong tributaries have been quarried without any consideration for the environment by big businessmen which resulted in increased mud flow during the recent rain, condemned CPI in the statement.
CPI also urged all the village chiefs in Loijing hill range to be aware of the negative impact of deforestation and quarrying rocks in an uncontrolled fashion which also has an adverse effect on the environment will eventual lead to many natural calamities including floods and landslides.
