Imphal, April 03 2016:
A large number people from Wangoi and adjoining villages today locked the OPD block of Wangoi CHC and staged a sit-in-protest against the transfer of Senior Medical Officer in-charge of the health centre, Dr N Sushila.
Speaking to reporters, a meira paibi leader said that they would lock the ward of the health centre as well if the transfer order is not revoked by April 6 .
She said that Wangoi CHC was in a pathetic condition before Dr Sushila took over as MO-in-charge in July last year.
Soon after her coming to the health centre, Dr Sushila brought many changes including renovation of toilets and making necessary arrangements for regular water and power supplies, she said.
The woman leader further said that Dr Sushila has won the hearts of the villagers with her dedication to her duty.
She is always available for consultation day and night and she sometimes refers special cases to specialist doctors, the woman said.
The woman leader further said that it is unfortunate that the Government has issued an order to bring a doctor back to the health facility as an MO in-charge.
She alleged that it is known to the people of Wangoi and adjoining areas that the said doctor had miserably failed in administering the health centre in the past.
They would never allow the Government to remove Dr Sushila as the MO-in-charge, she said.
On April 1, the woman said, people of various localities of Wangoi held a meeting after they got information about the transfer order of Dr Sushila.
Later, the villagers submitted a memorandum to the authority concerned demanding revocation of the transfer order.
She further said that the villagers today locked the OPD block as the Government has failed to give any positive response till date.
However, they spared the ward considering the possible inconvenience of the patients who are undergoing treatment there, she said.
