Imphal, April 03 2016:
Nagaland Chief Minister T R
Zeliang on Saturday appealed
to the people to come together
and work out an early solution
to the protracted Naga political
problem which he said had
been a stumbling block for the
development of the state for
many decades.
The need of the hour is to
solve the political problem so
as to ensure that the people
reap the fruits of good gov-
ernance and all-round
development, Zeliang said at
Meluri in Phek district.
"As of now, we have 9
factions of the Naga Political
Groups (NPGs), and if we
do not find a solution fast, in
a few years, more factions
may crop up which will only
compound the problem," he
said.
Zeliang said his govern-
ment has worked out an
opposition-less regime format
where all agree on various is-
sues, including early solution
to Naga political problem.
"My government had
formed a Parliamentary
Working Committee which
has legislators from all Naga
tribes.
This PWC had met the
Prime Minister, the Union
Home Minister, the interlocu-
tor and leaders of the NPGs,"
he said.
"We have also been as-
sured on many occasions that
all the stakeholders would be
taken aboard while finalising
the Naga Framework Agree-
ment signed on August 3,
2015 between the NSCN(IM)
and the interlocutor at New
Delhi in the presence of the
Prime Minister.
As recent as
March 9 last, we had met
leaders of six NPGs at
Chumukedima in a Consulta-
tive Meet, and different views
and opinions were recorded,"
Zeliang said.
He also appealed to the
public to come forward and
air their opinions and partici-
pate in the peace process.
"We actively participate
and support any move that
will bring permanent peace in
our land," he said addressing
a gathering at Meluri on the
occasion of upgradation of
adhoc Meluri Town Commit-
tee to a full-fledged Town
Council.
