Legal clinics for NE students

Puducherry, April 03 2016:
In an attempt to help the north eastern
students studying in Puducherry, Union Territory of Puducherry
Legal Services Authority (UTPLSA) on Saturday opened three
legal services clinics.
Inaugurating the legal service clinics, M.Jaichandren, High
Court Judge and Executive Chairman of UTPLSA, said that
these clinics will start services in Bharathidasan Government
College for Women, Jawaharlal Institute for Postgraduate
Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) and Pondicherry
Central University.
The students in distress can also contact
a toll free number � 1800 425 8831 for help.
Speaking at the
sensitisation programme for the students on the functioning of
the legal services clinics opened by the UTPLSA, Mr.Justice
Jaichandren said that every legal service clinic will comprise
a chairperson (a faculty from the concerned institution), a
student representative and a professional advocate.
This serv-
ice will also attend to the students' complaints against any
police official or government department or official and even
judiciary.
The students can not only report on the discrimina-
tion or differential treatment or any problems because of their
identity, but also approach this clinic for any stress-related
issues or any complaints.
These clinics will meet on the first and the 15{+t}{+h}day
of every month.
The judge later took questions from the
students in an interactive session.
