Notice against using toxic chemicals in fishing

Imphal, December 15 2011:
Reacting sharp against the alleged use of toxic chemicals for fishing in Sekmai River, the Chairperson of Kakching Municipal Council today instructed people living at the river banks of Sekmai River not to use toxic chemicals which might prove hazardous to human health.
Chairperson Inakhunbi in an office order informed the people that anybody who reports such activities with proper proof will be given a cash award of Rs 2000 .
She also appealed to the people living along the river banks not to drop human and animal wastes into the river.
Meanwhile, the Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) condemned the use of toxic chemicals for fishing in the Sekmai River.
In a press release, JNGVO stated that such incidents are becoming frequent in the river recently and appealed to the people not to commit such acts in future.
