SOCIAL ACTION Committee, Yaishkul had organized an offering prayer to the ancient Banyan Tree (Sana Khongnang) popularly known as Heishnam Lairembi at Yaishkul opposite to the Gate of 1st Manipur Riffle along the National Highway 39 today.
The programme was held to mark a strong opposition against the partial cutting down of the ancient holy tree by the authorities under the developmental plan of the government of widening the NH 39 (Indo-Burma Road) .
The head Pandit of Govindaji Temple Board, Ng Kerani performed the ritual of the floral tribute and also prayed for peace and prosperity of the state.
Mention may be made that the 300 years old Heishnam Lairembi was planted during the reign of Meidingu Khagemba (1590-1644) prior to the phase of Lourembam Khongnangthaba.
It is also believed that Ebudhou and Ibenthou (Manipuri deities) are settled here.
