WAD condemns sexual assault on minor girls

Women Action for Development (WAD) has condemned in the strongest terms the alleged sexual assault inflicted to four minor girls in different part of the State in the past few days.
According to a statement of WAD, a minor girl student reading Class II in Merciful English School, Hangul in Thoubal district was allegedly raped by one Arambam Robindro alias Ibungo (38) on the night of October 26 at 8.00 pm.
A Robindro is a mathematics teacher of the school.
On the other hand, three minor girls who stayed in a rented house together in Churachandpur district were also allegedly assaulted sexually in between October 7 to 19.The accused identified as Siamthianmuan (15) of Tangnuan Village who is a neighbor of the rented house where the three minor girls are staying committed the alleged sexual assault to the three girls one after another during the mentioned period.
WAD has documented at least 33 sexual assault cases including 22 cases in which the victims are minor since the beginning of this year till October in the State.
The ever increasing crime against women is a matter of serious concern, the statement said.
Accused in most of the cases of such form of crimes are yet to be brought to justice despite the fact that existing laws prescribed time bound justice.
WAD has observed in most of the cases that people resorted to mob justice in absence of speedily justice to the victims except in few cases including the case of sexual assault inflicted to a minor girl of Merciful English School, it added.
Stating that the organization does not encourage such forms of mob justice, it urged the authorities concerned to ensure speedy justice within a time bound as prescribed by the law of the country in order to avoid any untoward incident including mob justice.
