Malaria cases coming down in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, November 21 2012:
A day-long National Vector Born Disease control programme anti- Malaria and other vector Borne disease campaign cum interaction meeting was held at Indoor Stadium Tamenglong with C.Arthur W, IAS, Col..VVidyashanker, Commandant 13 Assam Rifles as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
However, interaction meeting was cancelled due to absence of PHED and fishery department officials.
In his welcome address, Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer, Tamenglong explained how vector borne diseases like Dengue and Malaria spread from one person to another and how it can be prevented.
He said that the number of malaria cases in Tamenglong district has come down following the effort taken up by the District Vector Borne Disease Control Society.
According to the Chief Medical Officer, in 2011, out of 11448 blood slides collected from patients, 350 cases are found with 71 PF malaria and 279 PV malaria.
However, from January to October 2012, out of 8926 blood samples tested, 119 cases are found with 10 PF case and 109 PV.
Moreover, there has been no report of death in last two years.
Participating in the programme, ASHAs expressed unhappiness over providing low quality materials and medicines which are about to be expire.
"We are helpless when the sick asked for medicines.
All medicines got expired within few months of being issued and kits boxes were damaged due to low quality", an ASHA from Duiluan village said.
