Imphal, September 12 2014 :
Strongly denouncing declaring indefinite holiday in all schools and colleges as a pre-empt measure to contain violence in connection with ILP stir, Law College students' Union has urged the government to resume normal classes within two days' time by revoking the holiday notice.
Addressing media persons, Law College students' Union president Kapilchandra said that declaration of indefinite holiday for all the schools and colleges is unreasonable and untimely as semester exams are approaching and syllabus not yet covered.
The long holiday will impact the students seriously, he added.
Unless the government revoke its indefinite holiday notice within two days, the students' union will launch agitation in support of the ongoing ILP stir, warned he.
Stating that arrest of the pro-ILP activists and issue of official orders declaring holiday in all the schools and colleges would not be the solution to the ongoing ILP stir, he said that government should look out amicable solution to the issue through formal talk rather than using coercive measures.
Implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the state is the only way to protect the minority indigenous people from extinction.
Clouds of uncertainty loom over the identity and survival with dignity of the indigenous populace with the government failing to enact a suitable law pertaining to entry of non Manipuris into the state.
The ILP stir is for the future of Manipuri indigenous people to protect themselves from uncontrolled influx of migrants, Kapilchandra said.
