Two killed, two injured at Kiphire

Imphal, September 03 2012: One civilian and one GPRN/NSCN cadre were killed and another two civilian injured when some NSCN (K) personnel attacked the house of Yimthong Yimchunger Chairman of Yimchunger Region GPRN/NSCN at Longya Ward Kiphire town at around 1 am this morning.

As per reports received from family members, the deceased, GPRN/NSCN's "Khapur" Tsingthong and a civilian Luthong of Zanger Village were sleeping in the same room when the NSCN (K) personal hurled a stone at the CGI sheet roof of the building.

Hearing this, the two went out to see who they were.

At that time both were shot at blank range.

Immediately after the incident both were taken to Civil Hospital Kiphire but died after reaching Civil Hospital.

Wife of Yimthong and his minor daughter (5 years old) were also injured during the incident and were taken to Civil hospital and released later after medication.

In this connection, the Kiphire District GBs and DBs Joint Forum held a coordination meeting with the ward chairman at Kiphire and unanimously decided to washout both faction from the civilian Populated area.

As per the decision the Joint Forum asked NSCN (K) and GPRN/NSCN to vacate civilian occupied place and asked to maintain the cease fire ground rule and also asked to go to their respective designated camp in order to have peace and harmony in the town.

The joint forum also directed the respective Ward Chairman and officials to check and cover their own wards.

Meanwhile, Lunso Yimchunger Executive Secretary of Yimchunger Tribal Union Kiphire Town (YTUKT) has vehemently condemned the incident where Chairman of Yimchunger Region GPRN/NSCN's house was attacked this morning.

He said that offensive taking place in civilian populated area is "highly questionable" and therefore urged all the right thinking citizen to voice together to bring back peace again in the town.

He also made an appeal both the faction to stop such kind of offensive and also appeal to maintain calm.
