Nine sand loaded trucks sans TP seized

Altogether nine trucks loaded with sand coming from Dimapur towards Imphal were seized by Sekmai police today morning for not possessing Transit Pass (TP) from the Forest Department.
The trucks were seized by a team of Sekmai police headed by its OC Sh Joykumar.
It is said that one of the truck drivers was found possessing TP issued by Tadubi Forest Check Post.
On getting the news, Forest and Environment Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar along with a media team visited the site.
Taking strong exception to the incident, Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar said that strict action will be taken against those Forest officials who denied to issue TP to the trucks.
He said that action against the erring Forest officials is to be initiated under Indian Forest Act for
their utter negligence.
He pledged to put an end to misconduct and wrongdoing in the Department, saying such negligence by the department officials will not be tolerated any more.
The Minister inspected those Forest officials posted at different check posts starting from Sekmai to Sapermeina.
Appealing to the department officials to discharge their duty sincerely, he said that the department is working relentlessly to protect the environment from various potential threats.
He said that the department is planning to plant trees in a large scale on the eve of Van Mahotsav of this year.
About 30 lakhs of various types of tree saplings have been planted in different areas so far, he added.
He also cautioned the Forest officials that they should be held responsible if the tree saplings planted in the past are not looked after properly.
Shyamkumar called upon the people to take active part in the initiatives taken up to conserve tress and forests to maintain environment in the State.
Later, the truck drivers were released after they were issued Transit Pass from Sekmai Forest Check Post.
