Imphal, September 26 2018:
The Federation of Government College Teachers' Association Manipur (FEGOCTA) has strongly condemned the midnight crackdown in Manipur University and the arrests of unarmed students and teachers.
A press release issued by general secretary of FEGOCTA demanded the State Government to release the arrested individuals so that normalcy can be brought at the earliest.
It stated that the offences, if any, committed by the arrested individuals, should be made public by the authority concerned.
Stating that the failure to restore peaceful academic activity in the university for more than 100 days is a great shame, FEGOCTA stated that it reflects the neglect of higher education and weakness of Government and stakeholders.
It maintained that "force and deployment of security personnel alone cannot resolve any issue in democracy." FEGOCTA said that harassment and mental torture of innocent persons inside a university campus cannot be justified in a democratic system.
