Imphal, April 01 2009:
Registering its protest against the silence maintained by the Centre Government to the demand of conducting trial of the killers of SDO, Dr Kishan and two of his staffs in Manipur according to law, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) has boycotted the visit of the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tomorrow.
Stating this in a press communiqu, the Assistant Secretary of UCM, N Jibon said that the general strike called by the JAC against the killing of SDO, Dr Kishan and two of his staffs deserves support from all quarters.
The statement said that the Government maintained silence when the Assam Rifles authority said that there were designated camps of NSCN (IM) in Manipur.
It said that as the Government remained mute, the IGAR (S) had twisted the event by declaring that there is no designated camp of the NSCN (IM) in Manipur.
It said that the Manipur Government has to make it clear to the public whether there has been designated camp of the NSCN (IM) or not.
The UCM statement further said that it had submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India for the handing over of the culprits in the killing, who remain in the custody of the NSCN (IM), to the state government so that the trials could be conducted according to the law.
So far the Centre turned a deaf ear to the demand which is a clear indication that the NSCN (IM) matters more than the people of Manipur to the Centre, the UCM statement pointed out.
The statement further contended that the silence of the Centre to the demand shows that the people of Manipur were not considered as the citizen of India.
Since the visit of Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi is related only to the party's election campaign, the UCM has boycotted his itinerary, the statement contended.
