Imphal, May 17 2017:
The Sugnu-Chakpikarong road was blocked at Serou Lamkhai from early morning today by angry protestors demanding arrest of the killers of Nengneikim Haokip and Kaikholen Tuiboi, whose lifeless bodies were found abandoned at Moltinchan and Khumjang areas of Chandel district respectively on May 5 last.
The joint action committee formed in connection with the twin murders had on May 14 given a 48-hour deadline indirectly to the administration for arresting the perpetrators of the crimes in a stern statement published in the local media.

The statements also forwarded a warning stating that if the administration fails to accomplish the demand within the stipulated time frame the JAC will be taking up intense agitations.
The JAC kept stuck to its pledge after the expiry of the deadline and a large numbers of local women pour out into the streets at Serou Lamphai at sunrise and blocked the Sugnu-Chakpikarong road.
They created a barricade by piling branches and tree trunks across the road.
As a result of the blockade, the to and fro movement of commercial and private vehicles on the route was disrupted today causing severe inconveniences to the public.
A team of police from Sugnu police station is monitoring the activities of the bandh supporters as a preemptive measure to stop violence and potential damages to properties.
Twenty-year old teacher Shilla was found dead with first hand evidences suggesting rape prior to her killing while Kaikholen had multiple blow marks on the head.
