Cops evict vegetable sellers from Singjamei bridge

Vegetable vendors on Singjamei bridge pedestrian path were evicted by police today as the volume of traffic continued to increase after the State Government closed Sanjenthong and regulated the traffic movement.
In order to control the congested traffic on the Singjamei bridge, a large number of cops were seen evicting women vegetable vendors from both sides of the bridge.
Sanjenthong, the main bridge over the Imphal river that used to connect the twin capital districts of Imphal East and Imphal West, has been closed and dismantled by the State Government to replace it with a new four-lane bridge.
Vehicles coming from both the districts are now taking the newly constructed Thumbuthong bridge, New Thumbuthong bridge, both in Bamon Leikai in Imphal East district, and Singjamei bridge in Imphal West district.
