Imphal, May 04 2014:
Priyojit's blistering 70 runs off 99 balls went in vain as THAU lost to CYLCONE by 5 wickets in the Brajabihari Paul and Govind Paul Memorial Trophy played at Luwangpokpa Cricket stadium today.
Batting first, THAU rode on a brilliant 70 from Priyojit to tot up a score of 141 in the allotted 35 overs.
Priyojit was ably assisted by Domba who contributed 40 runs off 61 balls with the bat and Jotish who made a quick fire 15 runs off 12 balls.
The other batsmen however faltered unable to read the line and length of ball delivered by the bowlers of CYCLONE.
Instead to digging in and keeping Priyojit of Domba company, the other batsmen went for some rash shots, which did them in ultimately.
Extracting the right amount of bounce and right degree of turn from the pitch, Homendro of CYCLONE led the charge scalping four wickets on the way to keep a tight lease on the batsmen of THAU.
Homendro was ably assisted by Rajesh who returned with figures of 2 wickets.
With Homendro leading the way, the bowlers of CYCLONE did well in keeping the batsmen of THAU under a tight lease, never letting them go all out and score at will.
Though Priyojit did commendably well scoring 70 runs, it came at the cost of 99 balls.
Some tight fielding also helped the cause of CYCLONE in keeping the score of THAU within reaching distance.
Set a challenging target of 142 runs, the batsmen of CYCLONE started off cautiously, treating the ball with merit and not resorting to any rash or big shots and relying on taking the quick singles.
The ham handed approach of the bowlers of THAU only helped the cause of CYCLONE.
Priyojit also chipped in with ball scalping two wickets, but with the other bowlers bowling too many loose balls, they failed to rein in the batsmen of CYCLONE.
Narsing of CYCLONE led the way with a fine 42 off 48 balls.
The other batsmen also chipped in with some
valuable runs.
Jimpu compiled a patient knock of 30 runs off 60 balls, while Akshay Kumar made a rapid 26 runs off only 25 balls followed by Viteshor with 20 runs off 27 balls.
The mature approach from the batsmen of CYCLONE left the bowlers of THAU a frustrated lot and they bowled too many loose balls which were despatched at ease to the boundary from either side of the wicket.
The other wicket takers of THAU were Saroj and Bobin with one wicket each.
Homendro of CYCLONE won the man of the match award.
