Imphal, November 03 2013:
It is wrong on the part of the parents to neglect their children if they are studying in Government schools, Chairman of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) P Dhanakumar has stated, while inaugurating a seminar on 'The role of private schools in promotion of quality education' in Manipur at Public School, Oinam today.
Speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of the seminar organised by Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Dhanakumar observed that for promotion of quality education the same kind of attention and care given by parents and teachers to students studying in private schools should also be given to students studying in the Government schools for.
But in Manipur, most parents seem to pay less attention to their children if they are studying in Government schools, which is unfortunately.
The education of a child begins from an early age and special attention is required at all stages.
So, the parents as well as the teachers have a great role to play in the education of children, regardless of where they are studying.
Former Registrar of Manipur University Dr RK Ranjan, who attended the function as one of the Guests of Honour, pointed out that quality education would not come from sending children to tuition classes for scoring high marks in the examination without instilling a sense of social responsibility among the children right from an early age.
So, there is the need for inclusion of lessons related to local context in the school curriculum as well when one talks about bringing in quality education among the children so as to make them aware of the problems setting the State and encourage them to participate in solving them when they grow up.
Another Guest of Honour of the function, President of DESAM Wangmayum Islauddin noted that there are many associations and organisations of the teachers in Manipur.
But some of these associations/organisations seem to think about the rights of the teachers.
So, there is the need on the part of these organisations to pay serious attention to the education of children.
There is also the need for collective efforts towards ushering in quality education and producing good students.
ZEO Zone-IV Bishnupur Kh Yaima presided over the seminar during which many resource persons spoke on issues related to education in Manipur.
After the seminar, a science exhibition of the students of the school was also inaugurated by the attending dignitaries.
