CC students rally against transfer of teachers

Agitated over the transfer of their teachers amidst the persisting demand for ensuing posting of the required teaching staff in their school, hundreds of students of Churachand Maharaj Higher Secondary School came out to stage a rally today to protest the transfer of three teachers from the school to Jiribam and Thoubal recently.
Placards which denounced the transfer of the school teacher were used during the protest rally.
As the furious students who initially assembled at the school campus began their protest rally shouting slogans, Imphal East police commandos attempted to stop them from going ahead at the Palace Gate here today afternoon.

After a brief confrontation with the students, the police personnel with additional forces made the rallyists gather in front of the City Convention at Palace compound.
Later, the police led a few of the students to the Education (S) office to meet the Director.
.WAnand, General Secretary of CC Higher Secondary School students union said that the school has been facing the problem of lack of teachers, and added that in the midst of demands for more teachers, the Education Department issued orders for transferring three teachers including a Librarian from the school to Jiribam recently.
Mathematics teacher S.Meghachandra and English teacher Ruth have been transferred to Jiribam, while Librarian Irabanta has been transferred to Thoubal, he continued.
Now, the school is in lack of five teachers for subjects such as Geography, History, Political science etc., he pointed out and added that written applications have already been submitted to the Education Minister, Principal Secretary (Edn.) and Director of Education for posting the required teachers and for cancelling the transfer orders.
However, in spite of the assurances given by the authority, no action has so far been taken, he lamented.
Meanwhile, the Director of Education (S) has reportedly assured representatives of the students' union that the matter will be discussed with the concerned Minister.
The agitated students have made it clear that if the demands were not met within two days, then they would resort to severe forms of agitations including arson.
