AR foils smuggling attempts

Imphal, April 13 2021:
In pursuit to curbing the smuggling of drugs, Shangshak battalion of 10 sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters IGAR (South) apprehended two smugglers with Opium yesterday.
Based on credible inputs regarding movement of drugs on NH 202, a check post was placed at Jalenbung near Litan and at around 02:00 PM, a Bolero car was spotted moving suspiciously.
The vehicle was stopped at check post and after a detailed- search of the vehicle, ,14.5 kg of Opium was recovered from two passengers.
The vehicle was moving from Kamjong towards Imphal, said a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.
Two apprehended smugglers along with 14.5 kg of Opium worth Rs 8.7 lakh was handed over to Litan Police Station for further legal action, added the statement.
In another instance the Battalion recovered Betel nuts worth crores near Punamram village, Kamjong District.
Based on credible inputs regarding dumping of Betel nuts from across the border in the areas of Punamram and Makan villages of Kamjong district, a team of Kasong post carried out anti-smuggling operation in the border villages yesterday and on thorough search of jungles near the villages, the team recovered approximately 1800 bags of Betel nuts with market value of Rs.4.32 crore dumped in jungles between Punamram and Makan villages of Kamjong district, added the statement.
The incident has been reported to Custom Department, Imphal for further legal action.
