Case on disruption of public hearing at Nungba taken up

A case has been taken by the police in connection with disruption of the public hearing on the proposed oil exploration which was held at Nungba community hall on
August 17 .
According to reliable sources, Nungba police have registered a case in connection with disruption of the public hearing which was conducted to get the approval for Environmental Clearance on the proposed Petroleum Exploration, Drilling and Allied Activities in Tamenglong district.
The FIR number of the case is 23/8/2012, 148/149/341/353/506 IPC Act of 1860.Accordingly, police are on the hunt to arrest those involved in the disruption.
It is said that Police have identified the names of 15 persons who were allegedly involved in the act.
Meanwhile, according to another source, some people, who are government employees and were involved in disruption of the public hearing, have approached their departments concerned for surrendering themselves to the police.
In connection with the case taken up by the police, villagers of Nungba informed Hueiyen Lanpao that no one in the public meeting held on that day had any sort of weapons except banners and placards.
So it is unreasonable for the police to charge the public with involvement in the act under Section 148 .
The villagers asserted that they disrupted the public hearing as the concerned officials were trying to take out petroleum products from the state deceitfully.
Moreover, there were no unlawful activities carried out by the villagers.
Even if the police arrest 100 villagers for disrupting the public hearing, there will be another thousand villagers coming up against the conducting of public hearing for getting the approval for Environment Clearance on the proposed Petroleum Exploration, Drilling and Allied Activities in Tamenglong district, they added categorically.
