Imphal, March 23, 2013:
A sit-in-demonstration was organised at Wakha community hall today to demand immediate release of the local soothsayer Sanahal and punishment of all those involved in the murder of Thokchom Kiran of Koirou Mamang Leikai under Thongju Assembly constituency.
Sanahal is being detained by the police after Kourou locals rounded him up while performing certain rituals to locate Kiran, who went missing after he was engaged to transport a sick person by some individuals from a neighbouring village.
Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the daylong protest demonstration, Sanahal's wife Jibanmala said that her spouse was contacted on March 18 by two Muslim individuals to trace a missing person (Kiran).
With Sanahal not returning home and his mobile phone also out of reach (switched off mode) family members came to know about his (Sanahal) detention at Irilbung police station through the daily newspapers the next day, Jibanmala recounted.
She also quoted the Irilbung police station Office in-charge as saying that Sanahal could not be released as he (Sanahal) was in the company of Kiran's suspected killers.
Insisting that Sanahal is innocent and was only practising his profession in the search of the missing person, Jibanmala demanded immediate release of her husband failing which intense agitation would be launched.
Sanahal is also informed to be a functionary of Wakha Youth Club, which organised the protest demonstration in association with Wakha Nupi Samaj and the JAC formed against his arrest.
