Women exhorted to know their identity, role

"With understanding of their own identity, women of the world today should be bold enough to participate in the decision making process, upliftment and development of society as well as the nation", Nemcha Kipgen, MLA of 50-Kangpokpi A/C has exhorted.
She was speaking as Chief Guest of the 2nd Conference of Kangpokpi Area Poumai Naga Women Union held at Phyapou Village in Kangpokpi AC, Sadar Hills with MLA of 47-Karong AC Dr.V.Alexander Pao as Guest of Honour.
Held under the theme of "Knowing your Identity as Women'', the Conference was hosted by Phyapou Women Union.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Nemcha Kipgen highlighted the various quality that the women of Manipur possess and made them excel in various field.
She also challenged the women of Poumai Naga in particular and the women of Kpi AC in general to shed their old attire of staying behind in decision making but to take the bold step to participate in the development and upliftment of the society as well as in bringing changes in the society.
The MLA while encouraging the women congregation said," The power and unity as well as cooperation of Women especially in Manipur is so high that it has become a great example for the women in other parts of the world.
"I completely disagree to the charges that Women in Manipur are weak", MLA Nemcha said, adding that the product of Manipuri women in the field of handloom is well acclaimed and acknowledged in the whole universe, Meira Paibis walking down the streets at night for the causes of their children, women taking boat in Loktak Lake to feed their children and family indicate that Manipuri Women are strong enough to face the world.
MLA Dr.V.Alexander Pao pointed out that geographically Kpi AC is the best and nicest constituency of the state where most of the existing tribes of Manipur settled together.
The Karong MLA said that money is not that matter in developing a society, it is the unity and love of the people staying together in the areas that is important for the development.
While encouraging the participating women to understand their potential, Dr..VAlexander Pao asserted that, "behind every successful man, there is a woman".
Traditional dance by various Poumai Naga tribes marked the conference which was followed a grant feast.
Taking advantage of the presence of the MLAs, Kangpokpi Area Poumai Naga Women Union and Phyapou Youth Organization submit their respective memorandum to the MLAs.
