CCpur, July 05 2013 : A peace rally was held at Churachandpur today to protest and condemn the unwarranted raid conducted at the residence of UPF General Secretary and ZRO President Thang Lian Pau Guite in the wee hours of July 3 by personnel of 30th Assam Rifles.

The rally was jointly organized by Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) and Hmar Students' Association (HSA) from Lamka Public Ground to Churachandpur DC Office.

More than 2000 people participated in the rally.

Later, ZSF submitted two separate memorandums to Prime Minister and Union Home Secretary through ADC of Churachandpur Maniram Sharma.

In the memorandums, the ZSF has strongly urged the Prime Minister and Union Home Secretary to initiate political dialogues with the Kuki underground outfits which have been under Suspension of Operation (SoO) for more than five years.

The students' body also apprised the Prime Minister and Home Secretary of repeated violation of SoO ground rules by security forces with special reference to the unwarranted raid conducted by personnel of 30th Assam Rifles at the residence of UPF General Secretary and ZRO President Thang Lian Pau Guite.

The ZSF further appealed to the Government to expedite the peace talks with UPF, which is demanding the creation of an autonomous hill state that would help in ushering long lasting peace and development to Kuki people.
