Gandhi Jayanti: State joins Nation

As in other parts of the country, the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated as International Non-Violence Day at GM Hall today.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Ministers.
MLAs and high ranking Government officials took part in the function organised by the State Government.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also celebrated the day at Congress Bhavan.
Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam led others in paying floral tributes to the Father of the Nation in both the functions.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the celebration.
Gaikhangam said that the day is also observed as National Cleanliness Day across the country.
Saying that the day reminds everybody about maintaining neatness of surroundings and purification of minds, Gaikhangam stressed on the need to uphold nonviolence which was championed by Mahatma Gandhi.
Contending that the people of the current generation must follow the path of non-vio-lence, left behind by the Father of the Nation, the Deputy Chief Minister said that violence is the greatest enemy of mankind.
Regarding the MG Avenue IED blast that left one cop dead and 17 others injured, Gaikhangam said that no solution can be brought through violent means.
Gaikhangam said that there was no loophole on security I measures from the side of the police.
He said that bursting of crackers while celebrating Durga Puja was a major hurdle to the police in taking up security measures.
Saying that anti-social elements usually take advantage of the noisy environment created by crackers, Gaikhangam said that it has always been the appeal from the police and the Government to the public not to burst crackers.
Condoling the policeman who died in yesterday's blast, Gaikhangam also shared the grief of the family members of the deceased and injured persons.
Maintaining that those groups, which indulge in violent activities would gain nothing but lose public confidence, he urged all sections of the society to bring development through peace and harmony.
Regarding, Nambol Maibam Lokpa Ching incident, he said that the matter is being investigated.
