Imphal, December 26 2012:
Women in Governance, All Manipur Nupi Marup, Muslim Women Development Organisation have jointly appealed to the people of Manipur and state government to find alternatives to imposition of frequent bandhs and blockades in the state.
Speaking to media persons, Convenor of Women in Governance, Nonibala Narengbam said that in view of the sufferings caused to the people during bandh and blockade, all concerned should opt for an alternative.
This applies to the ongoing mass protests against the Chandel incident as well.
Demanding the state government to produce the accused Livingstone and settle the issue at the earliest possible, Nonibala observed that although Chandel molestation case was a gender bias crime, the protestors should not try to flare up communal sentiments during the course of the agitation.
President of Muslim Women Development Organisation, Anwari Nurzahan said that the incident of killing journalist Dwijamani by security forces is a clear example of Manipur Police's lack of training and moral.
So, authorities concerned should conduct moral interview before recruiting police personnel.
Moreover, state government should try to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.
President of All Manipur Nupi Marup S Sorojini was also among others who were present and spoke during the press conference.
