Thoubal bandh lifted

Agitated Muslim students have lifted their Thoubal bandh following an agreement with the Government.
The decision to lift the bandh was arrived at after Education Minister M Okendro issued an order to replace the Principal In-charge of Haoreibi College Md Nurul Amin by Dr K Kunjani Devi, Associate Professor, Head of Department, Political Science of the college.
Agitated student leaders of Muslim Students'Union, Manipur met the Minister at his office in the Secretariat here in the evening following which the agreement was reached.
Agriculture Minister Md Nasir and Commissioner for Higher and Technical Education P Vaphei also attended the meeting.
Earlier during the day, several vehicles were damaged and traffic along the Imphal-Moreh road (National-Highway 2) was disrupted on account of the bandh given by Muslim Students' Union, Manipur.
Normal life, particularly in the Muslim dominated of Lilong was also paralysed due to the bandh.
Lilong section of Imphal-Moreh road was blocked by large number of bandh supporters in areas like Ushoipokpi and Haoreibi Colllege causing disruption to the normal traffic flow along the route.
Several vehicles including passenger buses, private vehicles were damaged by the bandh supoorters.
However, Thoubal bazaar located along the highway was not affected by the strike as normal activities were seen as usual.
