Pothashang celebrates launching day

Director of Information and Public Relations, Manipur H Balkrisna Singh graced the official launching day celebration of Pothashang - an online news web portal as chief guest at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.
Pothashang with its motto "Service through information" has been rendering its services by providing State related news globally.
The main objective of the page is to highlight the negative and positive impacts of the society and also to motivate the younger generation to follow the right path, said official of Pothashang at the event Speaking at the function, Balkrisna Singh appreciated the media persons who work even in extreme conditions to provide the masses with the news events that are happening daily.
"It is the duty of DIPR to create a relationship between people and the Government through media agencies.
There have been a lot of changes through development in information technology such as news portal, web page/portal, print and electronic media.
They are a medium for exercising our fundamental right - Freedom of speech.
The digital media has replaced the traditional media, they are much more faster and with the internet, our culture and traditions are known globally," he said.
He further stated that DIPR has been working for the welfare of media persons by issuing Press Identity Cards, providing welfare schemes and pension and advertisement policy.
He express he is inspired to do something for web base media persons and in his capacity as a Director of IPR, he will work to include them in DIPR policies.
"Since they are modern media, it will be beneficial to include them in DIPR policies so that there is positive changes and development," he said and invited the stake holders for suggestions in drafting the policy.
He also informed that the Manipur Journalist Welfare Schemes have already been implemented and the directorate has already provided financial assistance to the eligible applicants.
S Indrajit, retd Associate Professor who attended the function as guest of honour said social media is very important in today's society and is also the fourth pillar of Democracy.
He expressed his appreciation to the people behind the web page and also applauded them for setting up the Khelen Thokchom Memorial Trust Fund.
The function was also attended by N Tombiraj Singh as president.
