'Minister's brother assaults driver'

Imphal, July 02 2011:
A driver of a night super bus of Seven Sister Service plying from Imphal to Guwahati was hospitalized in a serious condition after he was assaulted by a younger brother of Health Minister L Jayentakumar on July 1 around 1.30 pm along NH 39 .
The driver was identified as Ningthoujam Dhanakumar (30) son of Late Bira of Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi under Porompat PS.
Dhanakumar told Hueiyen Lanpao that a passenger bus and a Bolero vehicle collided near Thangal village in Senapati district.
Four persons who were travelling in the Bolero were injured in the collision.
After witnessing the collision, Dhanakumar headed for Guwahati.
However the Bolero overtook the bus near Senapati district hospital and blocked its way.
After stopping the bus, the brother of minister Jayentakumar climbed up the bus calling down all passengers and assaulted the driver on his left eye with a tyre lever for denying him to overtake the bus.
He also threatened him of his life if he had his licence gun with him at that moment.
Dhanakumar said that he could not give the other vehicle side to overtake since the area was not suitable and that he was looking for a convenient place form him to pass.
He did not know that the brother of the minister was travelling in the Bolero.
He said that it would be better in future to call a bandh to let ministers go unhindered if they had any tour programme.
Dhanakumar was given first aid at Senapati district hospital and referred to RIMS hospital.
He had two stitches inside his left eye.
