Imphal, May 27 2020:
The recent transfer of Additional SP NAB (Narcotics and Affairs of Border) Th Brinda has drawn flak from different organisations including the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) and Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), Manipur appealing the Government to strengthen its war against drugs.
Significantly, the transfer of Th Brinda came amidst the ongoing case against alleged drug kingpin, former Chandel ADC Chairman, Lukhosei Zou in a 2018 drug case.
Th Brinda was transferred (on compulsory waiting) to PHQ following the release of Lukhosei Zou on bail for three weeks on medical ground by Special Judge ND&PS.
He was granted bail for undergoing cholecystectomy, a surgery to remove gall bladder.
Moreover, the All Manipur Judicial Officers' Association had lodged a complaint against Th Brinda to the Cyber Crime Department for posting "unethical comment" undermining Court on Facebook.
Nonetheless, the All Manipur Students' Union in a statement yesterday strongly condemned the transfer of Th Brinda amidst the ongoing case and asserted that the order (transfer) has weakened the morals of police fighting drug menace in the State.
Reminding that alleged drug kingpin Lukhosei Zou was arrested in connection with seizure of about Rs 27 crore worth drugs in 2018, AMSU asserted that the Government should have a strong law and judicial system which would work without prejudice and enhance the State's war against drugs.
