Imphal, May 22 2021:
All India Organisation of Chemists & Druggists has cautioned of launching lockdown protest if the government fails to accord priority to the 9.40 lakhs chemists of the country in the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive.
In a release, the organisation pointed out that chemists and medicine distributors have been helping the people all day long in fighting the pandemic since March last year despite facing several troubles and problems.
The service provided by the chemists is no less than the service of doctors, nurses, hospital staff and sanitation workers, it stressed.
Stating that everyone has accepted giving of Covid-19 vaccine to frontline workers on priority, the release lamented that the chemists and medicine distributors have been neglected by the government till now even after repeated requests.
Around 650 members of the organisation have succumbed to Covid-19, it informed, while adding that members could not avail Remdesivir Injection when members got infected as government has control over the drug.
Demanding the government to provide Covid vaccine to chemists and druggists on priority basis as well, the organisation reiterated the warning of launching lockdown protest if government remains indifferent to their demand.
