Meet resolves to accelerate probe into extrajudicial killings in State

A one day open public meeting on the topic "Justice for Mass Extrajudicial Execution in Manipur" held today at Kuki Inn unanimously adopted several resolutions for speeding up the CBI's SIT investigation on the alleged extrajudicial killings in the State and devising strategies to bring justice to the cases.
The public meeting organised by Extrajudicial Victim Families Association, Manipur (EEVFAM) resolved that CBI-SIT should comply with the directives of the Supreme Court in its judgement passed on July 14, 2017 in the EEVFAM vs UoI case both in letter and spirit and should conduct prompt and thorough, independent and impartial investigation in all the 98 cases and file reports under section 173 of Criminal Procedure Code without any further delay.

The proposed NIA investigation into the 'lost' arms and ammunition from 2nd MR storeroom should probe all possible angles, including the possibility of implanting of the arms and ammunitions during the alleged staged encounters and Government of Manipur ensure the protection of the petitioners, family members, witnesses and human rights defenders associated with the struggle for justice in the case so that they can carry out their work without further threat and intimidation, the gathering resolved.
The meeting further resolved to seek solidarity, cooperation and support from fraternal groups struggling for human rights and justice, the National Human Rights Institutions and the relevant International Human Rights Procedures.
The other resolutions includes the assertions that the GoI should repeal AFSPA, 1958 and GoM should establish the Manipur State Human Rights Commission.
Addressing key-note address at the occasion, HRA executive director Babloo Loitongbam asserted that the sustained struggle to bring justice on alleged fake-encounter cases in the State has reached a significant stage as the Supreme Court acknowledged the incidents and directed CBI's SIT to investigate into the cases.
He noted that a strong, determined and collective effort from all sections of the society is must at the present stage to bring the matter to a logical conclusion and deliver justice.
Former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam who attended the meet as an invitee termed the efforts of EEVFAM and HRA with regard to the alleged extrajudicial killings in the State as a move to establish a society where human rights are honoured , people live with dignity and the true meaning of democracy prevails.
Observing that the fight to bring justice on the alleged extra-judicial killings in the State may consume much time, the former Chief Minister maintained that it is must to sort out a clear and careful strategy to meet the objective.
The open public meeting was also attended by Ph Sakhi, president of All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup; Kh Anandi, managing trustee, Just Peace Foundation; L Nganbi, advisor of Apunba Nupi Lup, Bishnupur, L Memchoubi, president of Poirei Leimarol Apunba Nupi Lup; E Johnson, president of UCM and Ng Kamalini, advisor of EEVFAM as the presidium members.
Later, members of HRA and others CSOs submitted a copy of the resolutions to the Chief Minister.
