Three held for attempted molest

Three persons who were allegedly involved in trying to molest a tribal girl at Napet Pali under Imphal east district have been arrested by the police yesterday.
The arrested three persons have been identified as Ngangom Chandrajit Meetei (19), s/o late Ng Prem of Napet Pali Mamang Leikai; Tensubam Amitkumar Meetei (21), s/o T Lamphel of Napet Pali and Khaidem Sanahal (19), s/o Kh Joytomba of Napet Pali Mayai Leikai.
Ngangom Chandrajit Meetei is also claimed to be a cadre of KCP (City Meitei) group.
Police have also recovered 6 mobile phones along with an iPod from the arrested trio, who were produced in the court and remanded to police custody for 7 days.

The incident occurred on December 23 at around 6:30 pm when the tribal girl along with her 6 local brothers and 6 local sisters were on their way to Risophung village in Senapati district, on foot from Khuman Lampak.
According to reports received by Hueiyen Lanpao, the 13 tribal boys and girls went to 7th MR located at Khabeisoi to request for the MR personnel for dropping them till Risophung.
Since it was late, the personnel asked them to hold the night at the police station.
But they decided to go on foot to the village.
When they reached Napet Pali at around 6:30 pm, the three persons led by Ngangom Chandrajit Meetei stopped them and told them that they were bandh supporters and also cadres of KCP.
Then they separated the boys from the girls and kept them apart and took one of the girls away and tried to molest her.
When the girl screamed, the rest rushed in and the accused trio fled.
Later they met Meira Paibis of Nongren area who in turned inform the Lamlai Poice Station about the incident.
The tribal boys and girls were dropped at their village on the same day.
In protest against the incident, a sit-in protest was carried at Rishophung village today.
