Team AMWJU meets Secy of Mount Harriet

The 22-member team of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), which is currently on an external tour to Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has met the Secretary of Mount Harriet and pressed for providing a place in Mount Harriet to construct a memorial tomb in remembrance of Maharaja Kulachandra and his associates.
The team met Secretary Anand Prakash, IAS, at his office chamber around 11:30 am today.
The visiting team also presented gifts to the Secretary.
During the course of the meeting, the AMWJU team pressed the Secretary for providing a place at Mount Harriet, which is believed to be the final resting place of the exile Maharaja Kulachandra and his associates, for constructing a memorial tomb as well as for a Guest House at Port Blair.
Secretary Anand Prakash welcomed the proposal to construct a memorial tomb at Mount Harriet.
However, he jokingly asked the importance of a Guest house at Port Blair.
He conveyed that apart from the another AMWJU who had visited Andaman & Nicobar Island in 2003 and some members of Manipur State Legislative Assembly who came a couple of months back, no visitor or official from Manipur have come in connection with the proposal put up today.
Explaining about the administrative set in the Union Territory, the Secretary stated that tourism is their main source of revenue.
The annual revenue of the Union Territory is above Rs 2000 crores.
Some other sources of revenue include spam duty and toll taxes.
However, no tax is levied from businessmen as the Union Territory is tax free area.
Anand Prakash also conveyed that crime rate in Andaman & Nicobar Islands is very low.
This has helped in the overall development.
