Tangkhuls witness Tangkhul's role in Laiharaoba

Seeing is believing is what happened to Tangkhuls from Ukhrul today when they witnessed the fact that Tangkhuls play a part on the last day of the traditional Meetei Umang Laiharaoba.
A team of 89 Tangkhuls from different villages of Ukhrul district today watched a man symbolising a Tangkhul during the rituals of the last day of Laiharaoba at Wangoo Tampha Haraoba at Wangoo.
Apart from villagers of Hundung, Litan, Rehang and Kamasom, the team who came to specially watch Laiharaoba comprised of leaders of student organisations, chief of Kamasom village, AS Vaomei, Principal Secretary (Works) Ram Muivah, Soso Sheiza and artist K Remnu.
They watched the Laiharaoba under the initiative of the Works minister K Ranjit who promised to fulfill their long cherished dream during his recent visits to Ukhrul district.
On seeing the indispensable part of Tangkhul Nurabi in the Laiharaoba, they realized the fact of the age old relationship between Tangkhuls and Meeteis, said a team member.

They said they had heard of Tangkhuls being a part of Meetei Laiharoaba as told by their elders as well as Meeteis but had never seen it before.
Soso Seiza said that he had, on several occasions, heard about Tangkhul Nurabi in Meetei Laiharaoba but it was only today he came to know of the facts.
He praised K Ranjit for working tirelessly to strengthen the love bond among the different communities settled in the state.
He had repeatedly related tales about the relationships between the hill and valley people whenever he visited Ukhrul, Soso added.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjit said his efforts will open a new chapter in strengthening the relationships between the hill and valley people, he added.
Earlier, when the team arrived at the Laiharaoba site, the villagers of Wangoo extended a warm welcome to the team members.
