MU astrophysics team discovers ULX

In a major breakthrough, the Astrophysics Team of Physics Department of Manipur University led by Prof.Kangujam Jugindro has discovered an Ultra-luminous X-Ray Search candidate (ULX) in the Galaxy called NGC 3384 by using the Chandra Satellite Data of NASA, USA.
The object, which has been named ULX X-8, is brighter over a million times than the sun, and its mass is also greater than the sun, said a release issued by Prof.Kangujam Jugindro today.
On May 5 last, a report regarding the discovery of ULX X-8 was forwarded to the Astrophysics and Space Science, Springer, Netherlands which made the confirmation on the finding.
The report was subsequently published in its journal on Sept.
6 last.
The Manipur University team has become known team not only in India but also in whole of Asia in the field of Small based Telescope Astronomy and Theoretical Astrophysics, claimed the release.
The observation date of the MU team was discussed during the 33rd Symposium on Telescope Science, California, USA held on June 12-14, informed the release, while adding that Prof.Jugindro personally put up the findings at the 3rd Onus Conference (Aug.
11013, 2014) at San Antonio, Texas, USA and 12th Asia Pacific Regional International Astronomical Union meeting (Aug.
18-22) in South Korea.
Being a prominent team of Asia, the Manipur University team has been participating in the International Orion Project based in Phoenix, Arizona, USA since 2012 .
Meanwhile, Prof..KJugindro has been invited to take part in the Boston USA Conference and Shanghai, China Conference to be held in November 2014 and January 2015 respectively.
