NSCN-IM resumes tax collection along NH- 2

Imphal, April 12 2012:
The NSCN-IM which is under a cease fire agreement with the Government of India is still collecting yearly road tax from the passenger buses plying on NH 2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) .
Passengers, who often travel along the NH 2, informed Hueiyen Lanpao that at around 2 am on April 10, some cadres of NSCN-IM stopped a passenger bus (MN01B/ 0072) at Maram area in Senapati district and smashed the wind shields and front glass of the bus and also beat up the driver.
The cadres also stopped two other buses (MN01/448 and MNO4A/0826) coming behind and took away Rs 20,000 each from both the buses.
According to reliable sources, at present there are around 37 passenger buses doing service along the NH 2 from Imphal to Dimapur, Guwahati and Shillong.
On a yearly basis, NSCN-IM collects road taxes from these buses within the territory of Manipur.
After a lull, NSCN-IM cadres resumed collection of their yearly taxes from the passenger buses since April 1 this year.
Apart from NSCN-IM, KRA, which is a signatory to Suspension of Operation (SoO), also collects yearly taxes from the passenger buses at the rate of 7,000 .
The Naga Unification operating in Nagaland also collects taxes from the passenger buses of Manipur for parking at the Dimapur Bus Parking at the rate of Rs 10,000 yearly.
