ZSUM decries UG diktats on schools

The Zeliangrong Student's Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has come out strongly against the diktat of all underground factions operating in Tamenglong district, particularly in Noney area, which resort to intimidation on school authorities over petty monetary demands.
According to a statement released by Stephen Zeme, Chairman, ZSUM, the underground factions operating in Tamenglong district not only put monetary demands on educational institutions, but also warned closure of all schools if they are unable to meet the demands.
"We could not tolerate such military repressive domination over the sacred learning places and students community while education is not only way to transcend from the ignorance of evil but also to draw out every latent virtues," the statement said, adding that teachers who sacrificed and devote their lives in moulding the lives of children should be accorded dignity, respect and honour.
Reiterating that educational institutions should be made a free zone, ZSUM appealed to all concerned to discontinue creating nuisance in the functioning of schools and other educational institutions once and for all.
