One more dies, 13 test positive in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, May 22 2021:
Death toll due to Covid-19 in Ukhrul district scaled to nine on Saturday, after a 70-year-old woman succumbed to the infectious disease in Jessami sub division.
A reliable source informed that, the deceased who belonged to Nepali community, reportedly died at a location about 4 km away from Jessami township.
However, details of the deceased's name and other information were not available till the time of filing the report.
According to the source, the deceased was a diabetic patient.
However, soon after the patient died, consecutive two Covid tests were conducted on the body out of suspicion.
The result came out positive each time, it added.
The source further informed that efforts are on to declare the location as a containment zone and to initiate necessary surveillance measures.
Meanwhile, another 13 persons were found Covid positive on Saturday, prompting the district magistrate to declare four residential areas as containment zones.
According to DSO Ukhrul, the district has a total of 70 active cases which included 46 patients being kept at Transit CCC, 4 at Tongou Community Isolation Centre, two at Lambui CIC and one at Jessami CIC.
On the other hand, two doctors namely, Surgeon Dr Ngasung Mahongnao and Anaesthetist Dr Md Nushrat have newly joined at Ukhrul District Hospital, according to CMO Dr Kapangring.
Expressing elation at the addition of strength in the hospital, the CMO assured that the hospital would resume the services of its long-awaited Operation Theatre (OT) immediately.
"Thank you all for showing great concern for our district and for making this happen," he said, and exuded optimism that the district hospital would be able to render its health care services better for the benefits of the general public.
