ATRPFM, AMTU condemn Chandel firing; sit-in staged

All Tribal Rights' Protection Forum Manipur (ATRPFM) and All Tribal Manipur Union (AMTU) strongly condemned the firing incident that occurred on Thursday at around 3.30 pm at Prayer Mountain, Mantripantha Village under Chandel.
The firing was allegedly made by the residents of Mantripantha village who were led by their village chief, said a joint statement of ATRPFM and AMTU alleging that as per the report, around 10-20 individuals holding guns and ammunition started firing against the 50-60 residents of Lambung village who were returning home from their place of jhum cultivation and two women were injured.
ATRPFM and ATMU appealed to the authorities concerned to act in accordance with law so that 'such ugly incidents do not occur in future' .
On the other hand, condemning the firing incident and demanding the authorities concerned to nab all accused, several women staged a sit-in protest amid the lockdown at the playground of LP School, Lambung Village under Chandel, today.
The women protesters held placards that read, "Arrest the culprits" and "We fight for our right, we don't want commando in Chandel" among others.
It is reported that two women who sustained injuries yesterday have been discharged after treatment.
