Thoubal district becoming more like 'Golden Triangle', says SP

A public meeting on the theme "Free Drug Society" was held today at YVA Club ground at Charangpat Luxmi Bazar, Thoubal.
The programme sponsored by Charangpat Gram Panchayat and organised by 12 Clubs Coordinating Committee Against Drug & Women Welfare Association Charangpat was attended by Thoubal Police SP, Dr S Ibomcha Singh; Charangpat Zilla Parishad Member, Ph Heramani Singh; Charangpat GP Pradhan, S Imo Singh; Lourembam GP nominee Pradhan, Kh Sanakhomba Singh; District Mental Health Program,Chandel, Nodal Officer, Dr Kh Robindro Singh; Charangpat PHC Medical Officer Dr Bikram Singh and Lamding Educated Welfare Association (LEWA) secretary, SOjit Singh as presidium members.
At the event, Dr S Ibomcha said that without the support of the masses, police and agencies concerned could not curb the menace of substance abuse from the State.
Claiming that Thoubal District is now becoming more or less like a Golden Triangle with many drug manufacturing factories opening in the district, the SP opined that Thoubal district might have a maximum record of drug seizure as compared with other districts of the State.
Recalling that State police have even seized drug dealers from Myanmar and Tripura, the SP continued that anyone caught selling or abusing drugs will be punished as per the law of the land.
Saying that the incident where a man attempted to 'murder a middle-aged woman by attacking with a knife at Charangpat area in Thoubal district was done under the influence of a drug, Dr Ibomcha asserted that the attacker has been arrested by a team of Thoubal police.
The SP, acknowledging the bravery of the victim, said that she would be felicitated once her wound recovered fully.
Urging all parents to look after their wards with utmost care to ensure that they become responsible citizens in future, the SP assured that necessary help will be extended from police for the State to become a drug-free.
During the meeting, several resolutions were taken in the presence of volunteers/members of different Meira Paibi lups, clubs, organisations etc.
Among others, the resolutions include a complete prohibition on selling and using of substance abuse in Charangpat and its surrounding villages namely Nepra Company, Bengi, Icham Khunnou and Thokchom and carrying out drive regularly to check selling and using of drugs by the local bodies in collaboration with Police Department.
