Fishery skill training programme begins

A fishery skill development training programme being organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Churachandpur in collaboration with National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, began today.
The inaugural function of the training programme which will continue till February 29, 2020 was attended by Khaikhopau Ngaihte, AC to DC Churacahndpur as chief guest and Dr Narendra Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre as functional president.
Dr N Prakash, in his presidential speech, highlighted the importance of fisheries in the State and the need to cope up with the demand and supply deficient.
He mentioned that the State has about one lakh hectare water bodies and produced about 32,000 MT of fish, out of the total requirement of 52,000 MT of fish.
This gap could be filled up by increasing the local production and productivity, he said adding that there is a need for new scientific technology and intervention by the fishery experts/specialist and work more towards feed management, stocking management and latest technology in the fishery to increase production and become self-sufficient.
Khaikhopau Ngaihte congratulated the trainees for their huge response and participation.
He also cited that the local fish production is not sufficient and there is more need for the scientific method of aquaculture practice to garner more production and increase productivity thus increasing production.
Course Director of the programme, Dr N Soranganba (SMS, Fishery) specifically designed the SKD training programme with 6 different modules comprising of freshwater carp culture, composite fish culture, integrated fish farming, quality fish seed production and cage & pen culture to better suit and benefit the fish farmers of Churachandpur district.
Altogether 54 participants including 16 female exclusively from fisher community of different age group participate in the said programme.
