Imphal, February 12 2020:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), as part of its mass reformation campaign (phase-II, 22020-22), conducted an inspection drive at Yaingangpokpi Primary School and Ching Tam High School in Yaingangpokpi yesterday.
Speaking to media persons at DESAM head office, DESAM secretary general Leishangthem Lamyanba maintained that the inspection drive was led by secretary of education and academic affairs Longjam Robin.
Lamyanba conveyed that only six teachers, excluding two teachers who were on utilization, were present at Ching Tam High School which has classes from 6 to 10 .
The team found out that the school lacks many subject teachers including Mathematics teacher.
Maintaining that one of the teachers has not been coming to the school for a long time, he warned that DESAM will be taking up disciplinary action on the matter.
Lamyanba continued that, no non-teaching staff was present at the school and as such, no drinking water and toilet facilities were available as well.
The team was appalled to find out there were only 30 benches with desk present at the school, which has been selected as one of the HSLC exam centres for 271 students, he said while urging the State Government to look into the matter at the earliest.
Meanwhile, at Yaingangpokpi Primary School (classes 1 to 5), the Headmaster in charge, which was utilised, was not punctual as he was found to be engaged in counting census.
There was no toilet present apart from the lack of drinking water.
He sought the attention of the State Government and the authority concerned to take up befitting action for such negligence.
In an unfortunate incident, admit cards of 27 students were found damaged in a fire which occurred at the house of TM Memorial English School founder cum boarding.
This was found out when another team of DESAM led by cultural affairs secretary O Surjakanta carried an inspection.
He appealed to the authority concerned to do the needful so as to prevent any disturbance on the student's academic career.
