AR foils three smuggling attempts, recovers illegal goods worth crores

Chandel, January 10 2021:
In a series of operations, Assam Rifles foiled three major attempts at smuggling of illegal goods from across the Indo Myanmar border in Chandel district, said a statement of PRO IGAR (S) .
In the operation launched on January 7, smuggled clothes, Pan patta and WIN cigarettes estimated to be worth over Rs 1.5 crore were recovered near Wamku.
In another incident, the troops recovered textiles and shoes from Monsang Pantha and Khonjol worth over Rs 1.89 crore on January 7, it added.
On 8th January, the troops recovered footwear and electronic items worth Rs 61 lakh near Wamku Junction.
The contraband recovered in these three operations is cumulatively appreciated to be worth over Rs 4 crore, it added.
The smuggled goods are suspected to be of Chinese origin which includes clothing, shoes, liquor, cosmetics, household goods and wood.
These goods are being infused in the supply chain system of the country which is affecting the Indian economy as a whole, added the PRO.
