The MLA handed the monetary assistance to the school van drivers during a function held at Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong Community hall.
Speaking at the event, MLA Karam Shyam said, "People should work for humanity as the works based on humanity will steer the society in the right path and bring about a good future" .
The present political trend needs to be changed and given a touch of humanity.
Helping others also reward people with peace of mind and pleasure.
As the COVID-19 pandemic closed schools since March last year, the van drivers have been facing immense hardships.
The monetary assistance was provided to ease some of their pain and hardships, he said.
So far, he has also assisted in construction of about 80 houses.
He has also been providing assistance to orphans.
About 500 orphans will be given monetary assistance on January 24 and 25, the MLA said.
Karam Shyam also advised people to choose right candidates in elections and refrain from taking money in exchange for votes.
Casting vote for money is same as selling one's rights.
When the elected representatives go against people's will, those who sold their votes will have no leverage against the elected to fight for their rights, he said.
