Imphal, December 03 2018:
Forest Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar has appealed to all the people to stop hunting or harming animals and creating panic among the people without ascertaining the facts of the unknown predators.
Shyamkumar said scientists from the WII, Dehradun arrived in Imphal yesterday to ascertain the facts about the unknown predators.
Stating that the experts have already begun their work right after their arrival, he assured that facts and figures will be out at the earliest, which will be supplemented by cameras which have been installed at various strategic locations of the State.
He appealed to the public to halt taking any harsh decisions.
He appealed to the public not to spread rumours and create unnecessary panic among the people by sharing fake news/pictures/videos on social media.
He said it is rather unfortunate that some sections of the people burned fire to scare animals which in turns pose threats to the forest and the wildlife.
Two wildlife forensic scientists Dr Gopi GV and Aisho Sharma Adhikarimayum (camera track expert) from WII reached Imphal yesterday to investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, Dr M Vikramjit Sharma and Dr N Sharmila from the WII, Dehradun are already lending assistance to the officials by collecting footprint samples of suspected animals and sending them to Dehradun.
